Last Friday in Washington, DC, 57 years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963,  King’s son, granddaughter and others spoke to a crowd of thousands on the anniversary of the famous “March on Washington”.

At the original march in 1963, 250,000 people (a quarter of whom were white) filled the National Mall in Washington, DC, calling for an end to all forms of discrimination and allowing African Americans to enjoy the same civil rights and economic rights as whites.

Last Friday (57 years later), a new generation of activists and civil rights leaders took the stage at the same place – the Lincoln Memorial – to continue this advocacy.

“We’re taking a step forward on America’s rocky but righteous journey toward justice,” Martin Luther King III said. “August 28 is a day to remember the triumphs and tragedies that have taken place in our historic struggle for racial justice.”
